‘Gotham’ episode 19 video: A glimpse into Bullock’s soul
Given that it has been a long time since “Gotham” has aired a new episode, we’ll give Fox a little bit of credit for being so kind as to share a variety of sneak peeks from Monday’s return! We’ll have some more tomorrow, but for now we’ve got a preliminary look at “Beasts of Prey” that we feel is a worthy introduction to what could ultimately be the story of many of the upcoming episodes: The quest to stop the Ogre.
We cannot tell you for sure that what we are looking at here is a reference to this killer, played on the show by “Heroes” alum Milo Ventimiglia. However, some of the signs appear to be there. For one, you have someone with a real knack for doing some nasty business, and someone with a calling card. The moment that Edward Nygma shows Harvey Bullock the image of the torn-up heart, you can see all of the metaphorical brightness fade from his face. He knows that they are dealing with someone who is truly evil in so many ways, and it will be a near-impossible person to stop. This person has killed before, and they are still out there.
The Ogre arc is meant to last for several weeks, and it feels like it is time to get a good, external villain who seems evil for evil’s sake. Sure, the likes of Maroni and Falcone are interesting, but we don’t always love watching “Gotham” become a mob story. The Penguin is always great, and Fish Mooney is … well, she at least had potential at the start of the season. She really should have been killed off before the Dollmaker business began.
