‘The Leftovers’ season 2 spoilers: Show officially changing setting, hiring new cast

The Leftovers -While we’re not entirely sure that this is particularly stunning news given the changes that had already been announced, it may be nice fr some stiff to get that extra dose of clarification that yes, “The Leftovers” is moving pretty far away from the fictional Mapleton, New York. Now, it’s getting ready to head to Texas.

According to TVLine, production on the second season is going to be starting soon in the Lone Star State, which means that the show will get a chance to see how returning cast members Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, and Christopher Eccleston handle what may be a very different sort of situation. We’re really not entirely sure what this new setting is going to to save what was a show that had its moments in the first season, but eventually fell a victim at times to its own hype and ambition.

We have made it no secret that we love Damon Lindelof. He was one of the architects behind “Lost,” one of our top ten favorite shows of all time. He created rich, wonderful characters with unique backgrounds, and he adapted some decent ones here. The problem with the first season, at least for us, is that it was almost so depressing in tone that it became uncomfortable to watch. It was like watching a funeral processing at times, an unrelenting train of sadness. This is not a virus that can be cured or an apocalypse that can be undone. These people are simply gone without explanation, and it does not feel like one is coming.

“The Leftovers” may premiere later this year; it is going to be a while out given that filming has yet to even start officially.
