Is ‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 getting a spin-off?

Well, you can definitely color us surprised when it comes to this news. Even though the ratings for “Agents of SHIELD” itself are not exactly so spectacular that a renewal for season 3 is assured, it appears that there could still be a spin-off of some sort in development.

According to Entertainment Weekly, “Agents of SHIELD” executive producer Jeffrey Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski are two of the architects behind this new project. There are not many specific details for it known at the moment, but it looks as though it will contain some story elements of the final episodes of the second season. However, it is not going to have a full “backdoor pilot” in the way that “Criminal Minds” or “Chicago Fire” have done this week for their own spin-off shows. It would ultimately come about in its own natural way.

Would ABC actually want another show in this world? That is something we’re not quite sure of. While the quality for both this and “Agent Carter” is high, these not cheap shows to make, and there is only so long that they can be reliant on other thing. One of the reasons we feel like these shows are in good graces right now is become they perform well internationally, and are respectable in DVR viewing. They also have a passionate following who are more likely to buy DVDs and other products related to the show than most others.

Ultimately, we’re going to wait until there is more news here before we blare the horn that this is going to be happening.
