David Letterman, Billy Eichner hit the streets to discuss post-‘Late Show’ ideas
With David Letterman leaving “The Late Show” next month after so many decades in television, we imagine that it is going to be a rather strange experience for him waking up every day, and suddenly not knowing what to do with his time. This is a guy who has had a masterful routine over the years, and while he wants to spend time with his family, his child’s going to be spending a good chunk of the day in school!
Maybe Dave is thinking of his new adventure with Billy Eichner below as a fact-finding mission, to see if any people within “Billy on the Street” and its universe have any ideas for what he should be doing next. Almost as you would have expected, the majority of the responses are perfection. The best part of this was Dave’s own enthusiasm for it, and that the vast majority of the people they left in here were completely disinterested in it.
Letterman’s infatuation with Eichner came when he was a guest on his own show, and Billy did some of his trademark games with him. Dave loved it, in particular the parts that led to him getting screamed at with such fervor. All of this construed another reminder that Letterman likes comics that do something a little outside the box and different, and some of his best work is interacting with others and keeping that whole self-deprecating part of his character going.
In the end, we’re going to miss Dave. Maybe he’ll go on “Billy on the Street” here and there and cheer us up.
