NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Joshua Davis, Lexi Davila, Rob Taylor hope to strengthen knockout round

Voice -As we start to near the end of “The Voice” knockout rounds, are there any stellar performances in sight? We worried at times about whether or not the remaining artists were bringing it during tonight’s new episode, but a few of them did. Granted, we really got tired of the “will Christina use her save?” shtick that was shoved down our throats throughout the night.

As per usual, look below for our quick-takes on some of the performances of the night, and our estimation as to where we could go from here in the live rounds. We’re so excited for that point of the competition that we almost wish that this was over already.

Tonya Boyd Cannon d. Barry Minniefield (Team Adam) – As the oldest in the competition, Barry should really just be thanking his lucky stars that he made it this far. It’s so tough for older contestants to make it to the live rounds due to “commercial viability” and all of that. He was good, but we cannot argue with the decision. We just wish the coaches would stop with the “I wish I had a steal” line. You did!

Brooke Adee d. Kelsie May (Team Blake) – This was a weird showdown in many ways, since there are few times where even the contestants have noticed how lopsided the knockout was. You could see it on Kelsie’s face as Brooke performed the MGMT track that she knew she was done.

India Carney d. Joe Tolo (Team Pharrell) – What is with all of the predictable finishes on the show tonight? Joe’s a sweet, strong singer, but he doesn’t have the range or that killer stage presence that India has. With her Jessie J song, she ripped through the ceiling of the studio and reminded us that she is a big-time favorite.

Lowell Oakley d. Jacob Rummell (Team Adam) – This was a strange showdown, mostly because we don’t think either one of these guys actually brought it to the level that they needed to. Lowell gave a nice performance, but “My Girl”? Seriously? There’s only so much you can do with that song.

Rob Taylor d. Treeva Gibson (Team Christina) – Rob probably wins our “most underrated” award during the entire round. We thought going into both the past two rounds that he was outmatched, but he has shown us we were wrong both times. He was confident and competent here, while Treeva was just a tad too nervous.

Joshua Davis d. Lexi Davila (Team Adam) – Much to the surprise of no one, this was the best overall knockout of the night. Joshua is the sort of guy who could do really well in the live shows, since he’s got that artistry plus mainstream appeal. As great as it was, let’s send out a collective groan to production for AGAIN making it obvious that Christina was stealing her. Granted, we’re happy for Lexi.
