‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 6, episode 19 preview: What sets ‘Blaze of Glory’ apart

NCIS Los AngelesMonday night, “NCIS: Los Angeles” airs an all new episode entitled “Blaze of Glory.” The title is cool, but what about the extended promo by CBS? We’re ready to dive in and give you a full breakdown of some of what is crammed in here.

We have been critical of the promos for “NCIS: Los Angeles” in the past, and to a certain extent, some of that applies here. Despite the series being in its sixth season, CBS still thinks that they can sell it to new viewers with the idea of playing up the action aspect of the show and not really give fans (or new potential viewers) a deeper look into the characters and why we love them as much as we do. That just doesn’t work anymore; we are already too far along and too deep into these character’s lives that we want more then just action and explosions because we know that no one in the main cast is ever really in any kind of danger.

In order to really convince some new viewers out there that this is a show worth watching, you have to bring something a little bit different to the table. Violence tends to blend together in the brain, and what was once terrifying is now not amounting to much beyond just a series of images that have varying degrees of intrigue. Add in the fact that these characters regularly manage to avoid getting hit with hundreds of bullets per episode and there’s no real skin in the game when it comes to the action aspect. However, when you take a look at some of the other stories that have been building with the characters, like Kensi and Deeks’ relationship, or that Deeks is being investigated by the LAPD and he has no idea why, then you really start to get sucked into this show in a big way.

What the promo for next week’s episode does do right is introduce a new element: A computer specialist who is younger than any other member of the team and how the group reacts to that. In bringing her in, Hetty is challenging the egos of every other person within her team, since the easy assumption is that there is no way this mere student can be of use. This leads to trust, and for a team like this to stay together, you have to have this.
