‘Outlander’ spoilers: Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan talk relationships in new promo

For fans of “Outlander,” take solace in the fact that we are only a week away from the return of the show! This means that the time for secrets is over, and the time to start to understand what lies ahead for Jamie and Claire is here.

Throughout the first eight episodes, what was interesting about these characters is how they grew close. While there was an appreciation there between the two of them, they did not truly fall in love until after they were married, a political move mostly to spare Claire from Black Jack Randall. This is something that executive producer Ronald D. Moore describes in the video below, and it makes for an interesting jumping-off point for the remainder of the season. These are two people who still have yet to learn so much about who each other truly is and what makes them tick, and this element of discovery will send them down many interesting rabbit holes, so to speak.

We talked about some of this recently in our exclusive Q&A with Sam Heughan yesterday, but he and Caitriona Balfe here further explain some of the dynamics that shape the relationship that the two characters have now, and how there will be many struggles ahead as they start to become adjusted to their new reality. While they may be married, they still have a variety of issues, including everything from survival to learning that secrets could tear them apart.
