Ratings: ‘Empire’ finale huge success; ‘CSI: Cyber,’ ‘Arrow,’ ‘Supernatural’ drop

Empire -Clearly, “Empire” reigned supreme on Wednesday night. How much so? Let’s just say that it scored the best number that Fox has seen for any non-Super Bowl show in over three years.

The drama series set a new series high, averaging a 6.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic over the two hours. If you were to look at the episodes separately, the first hour drew a 6.0, and the second rose all the way to a 6.8. These are huge numbers, ones that will even test “The Walking Dead” over on AMC. It has already topped “The Big Bang Theory” as the most-popular broadcast program on TV.

Clearly, “Empire” may have hurt some numbers elsewhere. “Arrow” (0.8) and “Supernatural” (0.7) were both down more than 10% from their most-recent airings, which were a few weeks ago. The latter show was also airing on a different night. “Survivor” (2.2) did manage to keep its entire audience, which is a huge accomplishment given that it is both 30 seasons in and competing against “Empire.”

Unfortunately, “CSI: Cyber” did not capitalize at all on this lead-in. With a 1.4 rating, the show posted its lowest rating of the series so far. For a while, we were giving the Patricia Arquette show a great shot at coming back. After seeing that, we’re not anywhere near as sure as we once were.

We will have some further ratings news and updates as we get closer to the May sweeps, but “CSI: Cyber” is the only show mentioned that you need to really worry about. The CW has already renewed almost their entire lineup, and “Survivor” is a given since it continues to be enormous.
