ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4 spoilers: ‘Girls’ star Lena Dunham stops by

More scoop -Well, can we write this up as one of the most surprising castings of the year so far? It is definitely one that we didn’t see coming.

According to Entertainment Weekly, “Girls” star Lena Dunham is poised to appear in an upcoming March episode, and while her role is connected in some way to Olivia Pope and Associates, that is all we know. This casting is mostly shocking given that Dunham does not take too many acting roles beyond her HBO show, especially ones that are geared more towards drama than comedy. We imagine in our head that this came about more from Dunham’s admiration for creator Shonda Rhimes, and Rhimes’ own respect for Lena. She seems like the sort of person who the producer would want to see on the show.

Do we imagine that this casting will lead to a huge ratings bump? No, but it should be entertaining. The only thing we are concerned about is that Lena is so recognizable that it may have a stunt casting feel to it. We don’t want to see that happen, since this show has done a good job of incorporating people into its world.

While there is no new episode of “Scandal” airing next week due to the “How to Get Away with Murder” finale, there will be some further installments coming throughout the rest of the late winter / spring on Thursday nights. Stay tuned, as we’ll have more in the way of casting scoop as it starts to come out.
