‘NCIS’ season 12, episode 16 preview: Gibbs gets a ‘Blast from the Past’
Has 2015 been the year of Gibbs on “NCIS“? That is what it feels like at the moment. We’ve already had the story of him and Sergei, and that led us into the events of tonight’s “Cabin Fever.” This episode marks a chance for her to get know Fornell better in the modern day, and help during what seems to be a pretty essential time of healing.
Next week, we are going to have a real “Blast from the Past” for Mark Harmon’s character. After all, that just so happens to be the episode’s name! CBS happened to release the first details for this installment mere minutes ago, which is rather last-minute given that the installment is just about to air. Anyhow, take a look at the official synopsis right away:
“A covert identity created for one of Gibbs’ undercover cases 20 years ago resurfaces after a murder victim is found living under the alias.”
Is this going to be one of those “Gibbs being accused of something” stories? It doesn’t sound like it. Depending on the tone the writers take with this, there could be something fun in seeing what some of the character’s past undercover work was really like. One of the great things about these characters is that while we know them so well, these little stories do offer up opportunities still to figure out little elements all about who they are, and where they came from before eventually joining the team and working there.

A great episode tonight. Mark and Joe were brilliant together. I especially love seeing Mark Harmon in these rare emotional scenes. I’ve been a fan of his for quite a long time. I also was glad to see a couple of lighter quips that passed between the two. It tells me that maybe their humor can return, despite Diane’s death. From the promo for next week it looks like a lighter episode — something we need after the sadness and drama. Should be fun! Being a loyal Mark Harmon fan I would be delighted with an “NCIS Year of Gibbs”!
