‘Gotham’ episode 14 video: Bruce Wayne returns with a gift
It has been a few episodes now since we’ve seen Bruce Wayne appear on “Gotham,” but we would by lying here if we said that we legitimately missed having the kid around. While we feel he is an important part of the story given the central mystery of the season / possibly even the series, he is not so connected to Jim Gordon that we need to see him every week (or Selina Kyle for that matter). The show has finally started to get a sense of that and have really found their footing with the Penguin and Jim Gordon being the main focus of the show.
In the sneak peek video below from Monday’s episode, what you really have here is a chance to see Bruce Wayne return from a holiday in Sweden, and he even comes with a gift for Selina Kyle. His crush on the character is an under-reported story, but that is fine with us since their feelings for each other as adults always takes a back seat to each of their respective bigger pictures. In this universe, Bruce feels the need and the responsibility to try to learn and look after his parents’ company, but at the same time, there is a part of him desperate to have that sort of child-like sense of excitement and adventure. We feel like he sees that in Selina, and looks past most of her negative attributes out of fascination for who she is.
Obviously, some of these attributes continue with Bruce moving into later parts of his life, or at least we feel like they would within the world of this show.
We don’t quite know where this Selina story is really going, but hopefully, some direction will be clearer by the end of this season. Right now, she is probably the hardest person to include among the entire cast, because outside of being a witness to the murder of Bruce Wayne’s parents, she doesn’t have much else going on when it comes to the over all main story arch this season. This first season is really giving the Penguin a chance to shine which is brilliant for us since we have been huge fans of this character long before “Gotham”.
