‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 2 video: Nurse Phyllis arrives at Nonnatus House

Call the Midwife -Call the Midwife” is still only a few episodes away from losing Jessica Raine as a series regular, and just as you would expect, any time that you do have a departure from your cast, the struggle then becomes trying to figure out a way to properly move forward, and present new characters who are extremely compelling in their own right.

Based on what we have seen already now of a certain new character named Nurse Phyllis, we will say that at the moment, we are very encouraged. She is very entertaining! Perhaps more importantly than that, she is a nice adversarial character to many of the other women in Nonnatus, who at this point feel like they know each other very well, and there is not a whole lot of room for conflict there.

Ultimately, we’ll just have to wait and see how the remainder of the season goes, but for now, we feel like we have the potential for a very interesting series of episodes. Seeing how the new characters adjust to the world around them is going to be a big part of the story, but so is also trying to learn a thing or two about how people like Trixie and Shelagh are going to react and respond to a variety of changes in their own lives. One could be a bride soon, while the other one is dealing with a new child.

Check back tomorrow, as we’ll have a full review of this particular episode then.
