‘Arrow’ spoilers: See deleted Oliver / Felicity kiss scene; we discuss implications

More Felicity -Quite a while ago, it was first revealed that the writers of “Arrow” had originally planned something very different when it comes to Oliver and Felicity in the season 2 finale … at least in terms of how far they were willing to go in order to “fool” Slade Wilson. The two kissed!

Well, we now have some video evidence that this legitimately happened. The video below was first posted by executive producer Marc Guggenheim on his Tumblr, who joked that he was sure “no one” would be interested in seeing the video. It’s a nice, romantic moment for Olicity ‘shippers out there, but we also understand why it was cut. Just think about this for a minute. Had these two kissed, only for it to be later revealed to be a trick, it may have cheapened the big moment for some out there. We feel like the writers would rather have the couple’s first in-canon kiss to be one that actually means something far deeper, and is devoid of any sort of stunts or deception.

So what should this mean for the future of the show? At the moment, not a whole lot given that this kiss is not canon, and there is no sign that it is coming right away, either. At least we have seen Oliver tell her how he feels in an environment that is not trying to trick someone, and that’s a start.

We already posted our ultimate opinion on the subject of Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards’ characters in a recent article. We definitely would like to see the two of them get together before the series ends. However, it needs to be earned, and Oliver needs to pursue Felicity in the same way that she pursued him. Otherwise, the two parties are not going to be on anywhere close to equal footing.
