‘American Idol XIV’ video: See Adam Lambert featured in new promo

After starting off this week with auditions in Nashville along with some highlights from the bus tour, “American Idol XIV” is going to be taking off to the Big Apple on Wednesday night. The New York City auditions are upon us! This means that we’re going to have a chance to see a variety of new contestants, and hopefully some in the process who really can perform.

Let’s hope that they are all bringing their A-game, since they have a special guest judge awaiting them in Adam Lambert. Keith Urban missed this city due to the passing of his wife Nicole Kidman’s father, so the season 8 star filled in. While the promo below (via Mjsbigblog) does not give away a whole lot, we’ve seen enough of Adam on this show over the years to know that he will be a more than fine judge. He’s smart, musically knowledgeable, and more than anything, he understands that it takes more than just a killer voice to make a star. You also have to have personality, an ability to channel emotional, and a presence on stage.

After the audition shows this week, we are feeling at least cautiously optimistic about the path the rest of the way this season. The only reason for a little bit of hesitation on our part is merely due to the how we haven’t seen anyone perform live yet, or even really in front of a big audience. Hollywood Week is a real test of the nerves that these singers are going to bring to the table. Once we hear them perform in a more competitive setting, we’ll separate the strong from the semi-strong.
