‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 8 will address Carol Ann Susi’s death in time
Ever since the news first broke that Carol Ann Susi had passed away, there have been countless tributes. With that, there have been inevitably some questions as to how “The Big Bang Theory” would choose to move forward with her character of Mrs. Wolowitz.
Given that she never appeared on the screen during the show’s run (unless you count a tiny Easter egg during Howard and Bernadette’s wedding), you could argue that the show could theoretically just hire a voice actor to do her job. However, that would be completely disrespectful to Susi’s work to do something like that, and we’re pleased to say that the show is seemingly going in a different direction.
As executive producer Steve Molaro told TVLine recently, “the death of Carol will be dealt with … We just needed time to process the loss of our friend.” This sounds in many ways like the best thing that the series can do. Rather than trying to churn out a tribute episode for the sake of being newsworthy, or to come across like a ratings-grab, it seems like the writers are waiting to find the right place to bring the story into the world of the show. This was obviously devastating news for the cast, and for the Howard character, this is going to be a huge moment in his life. His father ran out on him, and his mother was the most important person in his life for the vast majority of it. He was so under her wing that he’s only recently started to care for himself.
We will have some more news on this “Big Bang Theory” story and others when they are closer to happening. For now, look forward to the show returning to CBS with new episodes on Thursday night.
