‘Elementary’ season 3, episode 8 review: Who is blogging Holmes’ private thoughts?

ElementaryMany fans have made it no secret that they don’t like Holmes and Watson separated on “Elementary”, and we have to agree. As much as we do like Kitty and what she brings to the story, the idea of having Holmes without Watson is just strange to us and it’s been going on a little too long at this point. Sure they consult on each other’s cases here and there, but for the most part, the beautiful chemistry between them when they are working together has taken a back seat to everything else.

Tonight we saw Holmes go to a sobriety meeting and learn that there’s a man online called the “brain addict” that runs a blog to help people stay sober. Holmes goes to the blog and realizes that someone has been taking private things that Holmes said at a meeting and posting them on a blog as their own thoughts. It is distracting him and he’s missing things while working, so Kitty offers to find out who is stealing Holmes thoughts. Kitty finds some information about the “brain addict” and he is able to pin point who is running the site: A fellow recovering addict named Darren.

Holmes talks to Darren, asking him to take the site down, because these meetings are supposed to be anonymous and that he needs his thoughts to be private, but Darren refuses saying that it helps him and others. Holmes ends up threatening him, talking about exposing his affair to his wife, but it’s still not taken down and when HOlmes goes to another meeting he decides he will no longer share. Later he reflects on the meetings, telling Kitty that he doesn’t want to stand out in that group because it’s the one place he can go to feel a part of something where he’s not the star.

It was nice to see Watson and Holmes working together on this case and it reminds us why CBS really needs to put these two working together again and both have Kitty as the protege. We also appreciated seeing Holmes still dealing with his addiction and being proactive in his sobriety. Episode grade: B-
