‘The Bachelor’ spotlight: Will Juelia Kinney peel back the layers of Chris Soules?
For the latest chapter of our “Bachelor” spotlight series, we turn today to someone who may last at least a little while in Juelia Kinney … and if nothing else, we’re really going to have to remember to spell her name correctly.
There are a few mysteries that are still out there with her, so like a few other contestants that are still mostly-unknown to us this season, we’re going to have to use the information on her biography page more than anything else to determine if she and Chris Soules are the perfect match. (Don’t worry: Everything is spoiler-free below!)
Age – 30
Hometown – Portland, Oregon. Probably more of a city girl than a country girl, but most west-coast cities would be an easier adjustment to farm life than, say, living in New York with the subway and so many people cramped into a time space.
Occupation -Esthetician. In other words, a specialist in skin care. There is a Juelia Kinney on LinkedIn, and that shows her career history being mostly in mortgage and insurance. Regardless of her career, the good thing is that these are all things that can be done on the go.
Bio highlights – While it is not mentioned in the bio, there are photos of Juelia with a child online that suggest that she may be the first mom we’ve seen this season. Obviously, that is important to her story, if she makes it far enough. On her bio, we found this date story amusing, since it is straight out of an awkward romantic comedy: “The guy took me to dinner, then refused to eat dinner, and then told me he couldn’t believe I ate my whole dinner.” This is why some guys are insane.
Positives – It’s hard to say based on limited information, but given her background we feel like she really does want to find love, and if she is a mom, it has to be harder in the real world. This is an experience where you can really focus on yourself.
Negatives – It’s hard to say how much a skin-care expert will be able to adapt to living in rural Iowa, or how much she has in common with Chris. There are no enormous red flags with her, but there is not anything leaping off the page suggesting that she will make a huge impression.
Prediction – Many single mothers do tend to make it fairly far on this show, given that they are typically a little less selfish, and can navigate the waters of this experience better than others. Then again, others struggle a few weeks in to stay focused. Our feeling is that the ceiling for Juelia is probably top 8 or so at best; we just don’t see the instant connection being there.
