NBC’s ‘The Voice’ rankings: Matt McAndrew, Craig Wayne Boyd, Chris Jamison do battle

The Voice -Is this the strongest top five of “The Voice” we’ve ever seen? We’re not entirely sure we would say that, given that the lack of any female contestants is somewhat of a bummer.

With that being said, this is probably one of the more dynamic ones that we’ve had at this point in the competition, and certainly a group with a ton of potential. Every person left has had at least one really excellent performance, but then others that have not been as amazing. There is a clear favorite, but also enough flexibility that this could change before the finale next week. We’re using, as always, performance quality, personality, and voting history as top factors here.

5. Damien – He was great with “Someone Like You,” and probably better than we at first gave him credit for. The problem is that we feel like his other performances have been somewhat overrated, and we have yet to see him tackle something bold and uptempo.

4. Chris Jamison – We feel like had it been any other week for Chris, he wouldn’t have needed the #VoiceSave to advance. “Sexual Healing” is just a song that is incredibly difficult to sing, and then sell yourself to an audience that embraces humility. With the right song, he should have a shot at this.

3. Taylor John Williams – His “Royals” was his best performance by a mile, and it really showed some more of what he is capable of. We would like to see a little more vulnerability from him, but he is a very good singer, and being the only member of Gwen Stefani’s team should endear him to voters.

2. Craig Wayne Boyd – He has a big voting block. We saw that last week, when he sold fewer copies on iTunes than Chris but still was declared safe. All he needs to do is tackle a song that gives him more to do and he’ll be in the finale.

1. Matt McAndrew – He’s been the best on iTunes, the most consistent performer, and he’s been featured in good spots on the show. All of these are good signs for Matt’s long-term future on the show.
