‘Elementary’ season 3, episode 6 preview: Joan’s back on the case

ElementaryWe’ve made no secret over the past week or so that we were not entirely pleased with this past episode of “Elementary,” mostly because it was not quite the show we signed up for. We much prefer the CBS series when you have both Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson working at least somewhat together, even if they are sometimes at odds. So to remove her almost entirely from the equation? Let’s just say it was like someone letting the air out of the tires.

Luckily, we have a sneak peek below that proves Joan will make her presence felt on Thursday night’s all-new episode, and hopefully in a way that is going to be very satisfying for many. She will be assisting in a case that is about artifacts, disappearances, and so much more. Mamie Gummer (“Emily Owens MD”) will be guest-starring as a wealthy heiress at the center of the case. This is a big week for the Gummer sisters, given that Grace is currently a part of both “The Newsroom” and “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”

The irony here is that going into this episode, “Elementary” actually notched some of its best ratings in a while with the Thanksgiving Day episode. Who knows? Maybe that momentum will transfer over to this installment better than we think.

Or, maybe there will be some who are excited about seeing a little more of Watson again. Personally, we feel like the biggest thing “Elementary” is lacking / desperately needs is a new notable villain, and someone who could stick around for a while.
