‘MasterChef Junior’ season 2, episode 5 preview: The first dinner service

If there is one episode of “MasterChef Junior” that we are probably not looking forward to as much as others, it is the one that makes us feel a little too much like we are in “Hell’s Kitchen.”

We should make an important distinction here, and that is that this is not a mean version of the kitchen with cursing and Gordon Ramsay smashing plates and food products. He is supportive, but you still are watching contestants cook the same thing many times over. We do understand to a certain extent the purpose of this, since you want to have a well-rounded winner of your competition, and this is a part of it. Plus, from a television perspective we understand the value in doing something like this. It is a great producer of conflict, since you have kids in a stressful condition having to cook a ton of food in a short period of time.

The sneak peek below shows some of what the cooks are getting themselves into, and if there is one bit of silver lining we can offer to those of you who do not like this round, it is this: You don’t have to worry much about seeing more of this in the near future. The first season of the show did not have many challenges in this vein, and we imagine that things are going to be relatively similar here.

As for the competition as a whole, we’re going to say for now that Samuel is probably the favorite; however, this is not like last season, where Alexander seemed to be pretty clearly ahead of everyone else.
