Lee Ann Womack sings National Anthem on Fox broadcast of Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving game

Fox -Earlier today, we talked a little bit about the first big National Anthem of Thanksgiving, as Quintavious Johnson of “America’s Got Talent” fame completely rocked out a version of the song at the Detroit Lions game.

This afternoon, it was all about country star Lee Ann Womack, who took the spotlight before the Dallas Cowboys – Philadelphia Eagles game in Arlington, Texas. The game was broadcast on Fox, and she did a very different sort of rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” than what we were expecting. Basically, her version was anchored by a steel guitar in the background, which gave it a distinctive country sound that is very much Texas. We’re sure that some out there really liked it, and others did not.

What we feel is pretty hard to dispute is that she gave a completely pitch-perfect performance of the Anthem. The reason why this song is so important for these games is strictly because the Cowboy fans can be a judgmental bunch. We’ve heard them very much vocalize their disapproval in the past for a performance that they did not feel was completely up to snuff.

Ultimately, Womack really had nothing to worry about here, and it probably helped that she was already a big star in the Dallas / Fort Worth area performing a in a way that is familiar. Now, Cowboy fans just have to hope that the rest of the game turns out to be a success. The football team has made a name for themselves performing on Thanksgiving over the years. There is also a big halftime show, which is supposed to be anchored by rapper Pitbull.
