‘MasterChef Junior’ season 2, episode 4 review: We want an underwater restaurant

For the most part, tonight’s new episode of “MasterChef Junior” emphasized the fun, at least in that it brought us one of the challenges that we really do enjoy: One that contestants are limited to just a few ingredients depending on how they fared in the first, egg-based challenge.

We really enjoy the challenges that are a test of the contestants’ creativity, and it is actually something that we wish the flagship show would do more of this rather than watching everyone try to perfect the same dish over and over.

The problem from here, though, was that there were not many clear favorites or choices to go home after this part of the competition. There were many kids that struggled mightily throughout here, and it was largely all due to one thing: Proteins. So many of the meats were overcooked across the board, and that was certainly unfortunate.

The clear winners, though, were Abby and Samuel. They both did a whole lot with a limited amount of ingredients. In Abby’s case, she only did it with two ingredients, which is basically crazy.

Josh, Levi, Oona, and Sean ended up being in the bottom four, and were in danger of elimination. Josh and Levi ended up going home, and mostly just struggled when it comes to their proteins. Sometimes, it is the little things, and it did not seem like there were any real disasters tonight.

While we do want to see something even more creative and crazy from “MasterChef Junior” moving forward we still cannot deny that this is a show that knows what it is doing, and that is consistently creating compelling television featuring a rather funny cast of kids. Grade: B.
