‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 16, episode 7 review: Benson, Voight team up in Crossover Week

Law & Order: SVU logoIf you love crossover events and all of the fervor that they bring to TV, then we have a pretty easy time thinking that you enjoyed Wednesday night’s new episode of “Law & Order: SVU.”

The bad news for the show is mostly that this episode felt almost like the second part in the trilogy, which is typically the hardest one to sell. After all, most of the best stuff is saved for the third part, and you do not get the joy that comes with introducing the story.

Still, this was a necessarily and strong part of the story, since we really could not move back to Chicago without it. This story was about chasing a criminal ring doing unspeakable things to New York City, and there were a number of memorable moments that we saw throughout this. Obviously, seeing Benson completely take some of these people (including Voight) to task was a highlight, but there were some very cool moments that came out of seeing most of these people together.

Last year, some of the crossovers between “SVU” and “Chicago PD” just didn’t feel right, and mostly because we did not know many of the people well enough yet. This hour really changed that, and we felt the weight of the investigation. Plus, it is so much easier to root for many of the people when you know who they are.

Now, the only other thread to be tied up is waiting to see how this investigation wraps up in the end. Grade: B+.
