‘The Simpsons’ spoilers: Is another character death coming soon?
There was probably nothing worse that “The Simpsons” could have done when they decided last year to kill off a character, and actually announce it. The press turned this into a massive ordeal, and when it was revealed to be Krusty’s father who died, everyone felt like they had been tricked into thinking that someone even more important to the show was going to go.
During the recent “Futurama” crossover event for the show, there was a moment featuring a headstone claiming that Ralph Wiggum, Chief Wiggum’s son who has some affection for Lisa Simpson, actually died in 2017. Is this something that we should be taking seriously? It doesn’t look like it.
As a matter of fact, it doesn’t seem like executive producer Al Jean really wants to come close to opening another can of worms on this subject. Just take a look at what the showrunner said to The Hollywood Reporter on this subject:
“[It was] just a random joke … In a previous future show, we saw Ralph as a police chief with multiple clones — each being killed. Some have interpreted 2017 as the last year of the show, which is possible but I doubt it.”
We cannot really see “The Simpsons” ever killing off another character, unless there is a request maybe from a voice actor or something controversial happens behind the scenes. Now that they’ve been through the controversy of the past year, it feels like they are going to prioritize more trying to do some great things with the characters that they have, and get attention from casual fans in other ways.
