‘Royal Pains’ renewed for season 7, season 8 by USA; HankMed fans rejoice!

As almost anyone knows who reads CarterMatt with regularity knows, we love “Royal Pains.” However, we were pretty darn worried about the show’s fate recently. With so many recent cancellations lately, it was not entirely clear that the USA dramedy would get another chance. The ratings were also down by a sizable margin this summer, but the show still did enough right to earn not just a seventh, but also an eighth season. Nothing is official now, but we’d be surprised if the show goes beyond eight. That is when both “Monk” and “Psych” called it quits.

The two seasons are going to be for eight episodes each, which means you will most likely get a small slice of the Hamptons each summer for the next two years as you prepare to see the next sage in Hank, Evan, and the rest of these characters’ lives.

Speaking in a statement, USA Network President Chris McCumber had the following to say:

Royal Pains remains a staple for fun summer TV viewing, and we are pleased to bring back the series for two additional seasons …. We’re extremely proud of both the talent and creative team, who, season after season, have brought to life to these relatable and multifaceted stories, which continue to attract a loyal fan base.”

Meanwhile, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment President and Chief Content Officer Jeff Wachtel added the following:

Royal Pains was a breakout hit from its first episode and continues to deliver for USA and our studio … It’s no easy feat to maintain a real connection with your audience season after season, but Andrew, Michael, Mark, Paulo, Reshma and the rest of team have done that and more.”

We can imagine the plot of the premiere now, with someone at a seemingly random moment having a medical emergency, and Hank running in to save the day. This is one of the shows that you know what you are getting, and you almost wouldn’t have it any other way.
