‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ episode 4 reaction: John Carroll Lynch on Twisty storyline

Twisty -Tonight’s new episode of “American Horror Story” is one that can really be described with one simple word above all else: Bittersweet. From one vantage point, it was a fantastic episode that showed off so many different sides to all of the characters in the story, and taught us a lot about many of the lesser-known characters.

However, at the same time it brought us the end of the road for a character in Twisty the Clown that we thought would become a season-long fixture. After all, he was someone who almost instantly reached iconic status right up there with Rubber Man as the greatest villain to appear on the show. He was big, and he went out with a bang as he was taken by Edward Mordrake in the night. The reasoning was also interesting: He had the “freak” status, but also a complete lack of awareness of his guilt, or how to protect others who needed it.

While he uttered nary a word before tonight, John Carroll Lynch was the brilliant man behind all of the makeup and effects, and while he did not directly address his fate in the tweet below (sent after the episode), it sums up his experience in less than 140 characters.

What we do know based on comments before the season is that Twisty is more than likely going to stay dead. After all the criticism “Coven” received for reviving people left and right, we cannot see the show doing something similar here. The only real twist (pun intended) is that we could see someone like Dandy still having visions of the clown while he goes about his own murderous ways (which are described so far in our review for the episode).

Let’s just hope that Lynch finds more work on “American Horror Story” in subsequent seasons, given that Ryan Murphy has shown a knack for using familiar actors many times over.
