‘The Mentalist’ season 7: Simon Baker reportedly mum on final-season talk
If “The Mentalist” is in fact ending this season, there are not many people out there who want you to know for certain.
In a new post on Twitter from Australian publication TV Week (see below), Simon Baker would not confirm whether or not season 7 would indeed be the last. We’ve been saying for the past few weeks that it will be, mostly because of a series of tweets that Tim Kang (Cho) sent out earlier this year. We’ve also included one of those below, as well, for good measure.
So what is going on here? We suspect that this is a situation similar to what “Hart of Dixie” went through recently, when many cast members felt strongly that they were approaching the final season of the show, but at the same time, the network had not confirmed it 120%. Maybe if “The Mentalist” blows many other shows out of the water in the ratings, it has a chance to stick around. What we will say is that CBS isn’t exactly pitching a perfect nine innings right now. “CSI” is not doing any better in its old timeslot, “Madam Secretary” is disappointing in the 18-49 demographic, and “Hawaii Five-0” and “The Amazing Race” are both tanking on Friday nights. Also, new series “Stalker” is middling at best. If this show can prove to perform better than some of these, maybe there’s a slight chance.
Still, we feel like the best philosophy to ultimately have here is to go into this upcoming season not expecting anything more than what we’re getting, and then being pleasantly surprised in the end if things start to change.
