‘NCIS’ season 12, episode 4 video: Tony, a new agent, and a bloody mess
Next week, “NCIS” will be bringing quite a bit of variety to the table. Not only is there going to be a new agent on the scene who Tony could forge a connection with, but there’s also a mystery that looks to be more exciting and fast-paced than any that we’ve seen so far in season 12.
Not only that, but this case certainly appears to be rather bloody to boot. The video below shows off some of what we are talking about, including a chase scene and a few other notable moments.
With all of this being said, will it still be enough to make the episode pop? What we are worried about right now with the series is a general lack of buzz. While it’s not easy to get headlines for a series that is more than a decade old, you also do not have a whole lot of people speaking out passionately about anything that they want to see unfold on the series. Our feeling is that one of the biggest reasons for that is that there are not big-name guest stars right now, or stories that are getting attention for anyone other than diehard fans of the show.
Both “NCIS” and almost all of CBS in general right now need some sort of knockout. Look at it this way. While “NCIS” was the top-rated and most-watched show last night, it only finished a tenth ahead in the demo of a recap for “The Voice.” Meanwhile, the premiere of “The Flash” over on The CW scored a 1.9 rating in this demo when the final numbers were released. That’s only 0.7 below the 2.6 for “NCIS,” and only 0.4 below the rating for “New Orleans.”

I’m afraid the New Orleans NCIS is a little too much of something. The character from Alabama’s accent is wearing on my nerves. Hey I’m from Houston, TX and it annoys the heck out of me. The medical examiner is well, a little too sugar coated to me. I just miss Gibbs and the old team. It was a must see for me on Tuesday nights. I wonder how many times I will say I will give it another chance. The Bishop character spoiled it for me. The writing became flat and they tried too hard to force her to fit in. Yes Liz it seems to have become a procedural drama now. Not sure about the “suggestions from above” though. I thought GG and MH were the head honchos and decision makers.

NCIS isn’t what it used to be when the bad guys were really, really bad. Now, it’s all about Tony’s smile, womanizing, and arrogant swagger. Even the mighty Gibb has lost any appeal, what with no boat to build or boss to love.
If they don’t make it better very soon – and stop putting NCIS spin-offs in every big city in the US – this will be my last season watching. I already don’t watch NCIS LA or New Orleans. Where’s the ‘Navy’ in these NCIS shows, anyway?
And Agent Bishop? Who is she? Pity they killed off Kate.

Beverly – You can scream it for a month of Sundays that Bishop does not fit in but THEY SIMPLY DO NOT CARE. MH and GG hired her. She auditioned with Pauley for gosh sakes. No wonder she doesn’t fit. She sucks the life out of every single scene she is in – she has lost them millions of viewers but MH will hug the girl and insist she is perfect. That tells me a lot about his power, this old show, and how I have no desire to watch it any longer. If like NCIS LA it had ANY COMPETITION whatsoever – they would NEVER have the numbers they have – but nothing else is on Tuesday night – so, the same old same old continues. And they have lost their ‘humble’ attitude and shout ‘we are number 1’ at every opportunity – pathetic and sad it should end up like this.

I don’t miss Ziva at all. However for some, I know that this is a really sore spot. I don’t think that Ellie is so bad as many who are still angry about CdP’s departure are making her out to be. That said, I agree that she is a less intense and well defined character than either of her predecessors.
To me the lack of buzz rests more in the fact that tptb seem unwillingly to really do anything new or novel with their current cast of characters. We have a constant and steady diet of the Gibbs show. He is always the object of danger filled situations, the target of personal enemies, the only team member who shares significant scenes with other team member. His character is the always self sacrificing martyr and near magical super hero with a tragic past being cast time after time after time in all of the big multi episode danger stories and arcs as well as always being the main player in every pivotal scene. No other team member can have any real significance unless Gibbs is referenced as well. Isn’t this the 5th time we’ve had a year long super Gibbs verses super enemy who is out to get him arc? If Gibbs isn’t your favorite (a concept that tptb seem to refuse to consider) then the viewer might find the never varying super Gibbs format tedious. I know I do.

When will someone at CBS admit they made a mistake letting Cote de Pablo go? The Emily Bishop character is totally lame and contributes absolutely nothing to the show. Come on CBS – Bring back Ziva, bring back the fans, and the chemistry NCIS used to have. The vast majority of NCIS fans have been asking for CBS to bring back ZIVA – is anyone listening?

I have thought for a long time, that they should have Robert Vaughn on the show with a story line where he interacts with David McCallum. I am getting used to the Bishop character but have thought that it would have been nice if they had a pretty, sexy African American woman with attitude instead.

I agree that they lost a lot last season with Cote de Pablo leaving. I know that it has been discussed over and over but she was the connector to the show. NCIS also has a lot more competition now with other shows. I have 4 shows on Tuesday night in addition to NCIS. I can’t watch them all so I tape them for later viewing on nights when there isn’t anything on TV that I like. They had some banter between Bishop and the guys in episode 2. I haven’t watched the Ducky ep yet. Ep 2 was better than the premiere I think. They need the banter between Bishop and the guys to be real hilarious like it was with Cote and get back to some really surprising twists in the plotlines. In earlier seasons I would find that I thought I had it all figured out only to be totally blown away by who the real villain was at the 10-15 minute mark before the show concluded.

I totally agree with Beverly. The Bishop character sucks the life out of the show. She tries to come across “normal” by speaking fast at times which is only about 60% audible. The face grimacing is enough to make me change the channel. Sometimes I forget to go back. That’s sad, because like Beverly, I was parked on the couch at 7:59 to watch from the get-go. That is no longer the case. That’s a shame too!

Remember that TPTB hired her. Gary Glasberg and friends wrote the character with “suggestions from above.” I think that you have to look above Gasberg to locate the problem. Recently Glasberg was interviewed and he was talking about season 11 and comparing to season 12. One of the things he has to deal with was “suggestions from above”–that might not be a direct quote. I would not say that NCIS is bad but I think it’s pretty ordinary now. If all you require is a good “Gibbs fix” every week, you’ll get that. If you want something above the rest of the procedural dramas on TV, that may be over–only time will tell. I found the last 2 episodes of NCIS-LA to be more entertaining. With that ten o’clock spot their ratings and viewership have dropped but the excitement was there.

Yes. Loving NCIS-LA this year. I hope they don’t kill the show by the move to Monday. It’s just getting good.

The excitement is gone. The cast is a little more like themselves this season but they don’t have the natural connection that they had for 10 seasons. I can’t say this strongly enough Bishop does not fit in with this group and the scenes she is in with them come off awkward and stiff, nor do they have the humor and camaraderie that we are used to. But is seems that G. Glasberg and M. Harmon want to keep her no matter what the fans think so the show will continue without the pah. I personally think it is unfair to the rest of the cast especially after they spent years building up the show. I will watch what episodes interest me and watch the others On Demand whenever. For ten seasons I was parked in front of the TV at 7:59 so I wouldn’t miss the opening scene of NCIS each week. Now it’s like…okay NCIS is on now. Sad.

Looks good! NCIS never gets an buzz though, so I don’t expect that to change

Nothing will give them POP without Cote being back. She WAS the spark plug for the whole show.

Absolutely right on Terry. Between them, Gary Glasberg and Mark Harmon, and their ego, have ruined NCIS. And Liz is so right TPTB are not the ones making suggestions. It’s MH in charge now and he has no idea of storyline – His character has grunted and walked thru scenes for 10 years and now Gibbs is the Almighty. It has just killed the show ! And Bishop is the worst actor EVER.

Last season was flat and they lost 1.44M viewers last night. CBS wake up. Bring Cote back.

What would love to see is Ziva getting back into action. The best action scenes were developed by Cote de Pablo as Ziva David. Hope she gets back.

That looks good, especially if Tony gets a big role. New agent looks interesting. I hope they aren’t going to go down the romance route.
