MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 4, episode 14 review: Did Jenna get accepted to college?

Awkward -On tonight’s new episode of “Awkward,” we saw a situation that was probably one of the easiest to related to that the show has done, regardless of if you are talking about college, a social situation, or just a life decision. It’s that feeling that everyone else is moving forward, and yet you are in the background, pretty firmly stuck in first gear and wondering what in the world is going to happen.

The hard part for Jenna Hamilton was that she was really given no time at all to process not getting accepted to her dream school. Instead, her friends wagged it in her face, her parents basically assumed it, and she was paraded around until she ultimately was forced to admit it at the least inopportune time.

The only thing that Jenna had going for her throughout the episode was the fact that she had a new suitor, though it came in the form of sophomore Owen, who she kissed in secret on New Year’s Eve.

The other stories tonight were also probably the most fun of the season, probably because of the show’s insistence on the taboo. The Lissa / Tyler relationship is a whole lot of fun, mostly because she finally came clean tonight. Also, Jake’s new love interest is significantly older, and he actually likes her! That is quite a bit of fun to behold.

As Jenna tried to recover from her depression, there were some nice moments throughout tonight’s episode that revolved around her and Matty connecting as friends, and her thinking about what to do next. She actually came to terms with the college decision pretty well, and decided that if she was going to be a writer, she had to handle this.

While we know that Owen and Jenna together is only going to be trouble, this was still a very fun episode. We laughed, but more than anything, we related to the story. That’s hard sometimes for a high school show.
