‘The Newsroom’ season 3 spoilers: On mystery Kat Dennings casting

The Newsroom -Given that the show only has six episodes in its final season, and that HBO is very good at keeping news on lockdown until they want to reveal it, the news passed by rather quietly earlier this year that Kat Dennings had joined the final season of “The Newsroom.”

For Dennings, this role has to feel like a nice change of pace. She is one of the stars of CBS’ “2 Broke Girls,” a sitcom that makes a name for itself by being gross, vulgar, and often outrageous. Her character of Max is typically a ringleader in all of this.

So what will she be doing in the world of Will McAvoy here? Show creator Aaron Sorkin, per Entertainment Weekly, explains that she will be tied into the story of Reese Lansing (Chris Messina) and ACN’s parent company:

“…We meet Reese’s father’s children by his next wife so we meet his half-brother and his half-sister is Kat Dennings. And they own a 45-percent share of the controlling stock in the company and that begins a story rolling of a hostile takeover of AWN.”

We are pretty excited to see what unfolds here, but more than anything else, we’re glad to just see Dennings do a little more drama again. One of the great things about being on a show like “2 Broke Girls” is that for TV standards, it is a pretty easy schedule to work around. Plus, “The Newsroom” is short enough of a season that things like this can happen.
