‘Doctor Who’ season 8, episode 4 preview: Peter Capaldi, ‘Listen,’ and the ends of the universe
While tonight’s “Doctor Who” episode “Robot of Sherwood” took us on a unique journey back to the days of Robin hood, we are now moving back to the present, the future, or whatever other era the show chooses to be in. We’re going back into outer space!
“Listen” is the first episode to give Steven Moffat a writing credit since the premiere (though he is just a co-writer in this capacity), so the scrutiny will most likely be very high here. As for details when it comes to the story, you can see some of them below:
“When ghosts of past and future crowd into their lives, the Doctor and Clara are thrown into an adventure that takes them to the very end of the universe. What happens when the Doctor is alone? And what scares the grand old man of Time and Space? Listen!”
In theory, this episode sounds pretty fantastic, mostly because it brings The Doctor into a vulnerable place … and just how often are we really in this position when it comes to this show? The answer is “not often,” and that is what makes it appealing!
The challenge for the series will simply be trying to find a way to make this story in particular stand out, since let’s face it: The idea of The Doctor and Clara traveling to the ends of the universe is not something that is that original in itself. Maybe there will be at least some callbacks to earlier storylines, such as what we saw in “Deep Breath.”
