‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Rumors run afoul of Steven Moffat replacements

Doctor Who -For some reason, everyone online seems to be addicted at the moment when it comes to someone being replaced on “Doctor Who” following its current eighth season. For a while, the hot rumor revolved around Jenna Coleman (Clara). However, that has since changed, and now one of the current trends focuses more on whether or not this season could be the end for Steven Moffat.

To a certain extent, we understand why not everyone out there loves Moffat’s work that much. His stories are convoluted much of the time, and some feel in particular like some big moments (“Deep Breath,” Matt Smith’s regeneration) have been letdowns to a certain degree.

With that being said, we are still pretty firmly in the Moffat camp, given that he has done so much right that you can overlook some of what he has done wrong. Plus, it feels in general like the internet fails to acknowledge how challenging running a show like this, with this opinionated of a fan following, really must be.

The latest rumor had Moffat being replaced in season 9 by Anthony Horowitz, the Alex Rider novel who seemed like a curious choice. The talent is there, but there’s not as much experience when it comes to running the show. Regardless, Horowitz claimed on Twitter that it is “unlikely” that he would be taking on the role anytime soon.

We feel like if there is any major change to be made this year, it will be in the department of changing companions. There is no reason for Moffat to keep his departure a secret if he was in fact leaving, so we don’t think that it is true for this year … especially since he has also insinuated in the past that he will continue to be a part of the show until at least its ninth season comes to a close.
