‘The X Factor’ UK revuew: Meet Andrea Faustini, Kitten & the Hip, and Girl Thing’s Linzi Martin
The second round of “X Factor” auditions came up today, and we’ll start off here by saying that we were somewhat disappointed with the format of it all. Why not give us the arena auditions for the first group? This makes it harder to remember some of those folks.
In case you missed our review of the premiere (which you can see again here), what we’re going to be doing is highlighting most of the good acts. Let’s leave the rubbish behind, now shall we?
Stevi Ritchie, “Dance With Me Tonight” – He’s complete bollocks, and not a good singer at all. But if you are going to have a joke contestant, at least have one with a great personality like this.
Only the Young, “The Way You Look Tonight” – One of the female singers was a little nasally, but there is definitely great potential here if they work on the vocal. The blend was the best of the night.
Concept – In case you forgot, this is the group that features a cousin of Harry Styles, but thanks to the show for not exploiting that! They were good on their own.
Arize – A decent girl group, but the three seemed to be a little bit unsure of themselves when it comes to their stage presence.
Overload – A group with potential, but they haven’t been together long enough to have a consistent sound to them.
Kitten & The Hip – This awkward duo split up, as the Kitten decided to move forward without her awkward husband, who really didn’t seem that thrilled about it. The funny thing is that these two have actually made a lot of music together over the years.
Andrea Faustini – Where did this guy come from? We really don’t even care! One of the best auditions of the season so far, mostly because he came completely out of nowhere, with his pug shirt and his Mel B hero worship, to be a really good singer.
Helen Folthorpe, Michelle Lawson, and Chloe Thwala – All were very good, but did not get a whole lot of time in the spotlight.
Linzi Martin – This wasn’t a great audition, but it was still something worth a debate. She didn’t make it through, but we want to at least spotlight it since she was in Girl Thing, she knew Simon Cowell, and Cheryl Cole called it one of the worst auditions for her to ever go through, mostly because she realizes that her career could have easily gone in that direction. Episode Grade: B.
