‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: What notable past director wants ‘Black Widow’ movie?

Game of Thrones -Just in case you haven’t followed along the Marvel movie train lately, there is a pretty big outcry for them to have a film starring a woman in the near future. They haven’t done this yet via the Marvel Studios banner, even though there are many popular super-heroines in this canon.

Well, Marvel may have just got an offer that they would be really insane to refuse, and it comes courtesy of a man who has become a master of making action scenes out of a smaller-compared-to-movies TV budget (imagine what he could do with a huge one): Neil Marshall. He has directed “Blackwater” and “The Watchers on the Wall” from “Game of Thrones,” which are the show’s two most-ambitious episodes.

Speaking to Vanity Fair on the subject of a potential “Black Widow” movie, Marshall had the following to say about why he’d love to take it on:

“[I find her] really interesting, she doesn’t have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah … [I] can’t identify with [superpowered characters]. Very rarely do they get killed off, and when they do get killed off, chances are they’re going to be back… somehow.”

This comment may also help to further explain why Marshall grounds his “Game of Thrones” episodes in a particular reality, even if there is magic and monsters within them. He wants the stakes and the people to feel real.

We’re not a film site per se, so we really don’t have too much stock in pushing Marvel one way or the other. We would just say that there needs to be a female-fronted film eventually, and we’ve seen enough of Marshall’s work to know he is right for the job.
