‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: The curious name of Felicity Smoak’s mother…
The folks over at “Arrow” at the moment are doing a very good job at getting us very excited … especially when hoping for heroes who may or may not actually be appearing on the show.
Earlier, the fanbase was sent into a temporary frenzy when it was revealed that one of the upcoming episodes was entitled “The Magician.” However, it was revealed not too long after that this was not meant to be any sort of reference to the Zatanna character. It’s possible that she could still come up down the road, or she may be being saved for “Justice League” or something else that is out there within the DC universe.
Meanwhile, there is already a similar sort of excitement right now surrounding the mere name of Felicity Smoak’s mother: Donna. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim made this news official on his Twitter, and he’s a smart enough guy and a big enough DC Comics fan to know what the reaction to this was going to be: Hysteria about who in the world this character could be.
As many know, there is a very famous DC character known as Donna Troy, who in many versions of the story also has another common name: Wonder Girl. Could this be a connection? For the time being, we are only going to assume that this is an homage of sorts. It would be rather cool, though, for Felicity to spend her whole life thinking that her mom was a cocktail waitress, only to learn after the fact that she was actually one of the most powerful characters in this world of heroes. That’s unlikely, but still.
What’s your take on the Donna name, and do you have any theories now? Let us know, and head over here for some further coverage on everything we discuss at CarterMatt!
