‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 spoilers: The latest filming location revealed

Game of Thrones -It’s pretty easy at the moment to be jealousy of “Game of Thrones,” and for so many reasons. The show gets to travel all over the world filming, incorporate a huge cast, and also work with one of the biggest budgets in the history of TV. This is what happens when you can claim nearly 20 million viewers a week who are legally watching your show.

So far, we’ve heard general details regarding the show filming at its Northern Ireland sets, in addition to Croatia, Spain, parts of Iceland, and more. Now, we’ve found out a few more specifics about one locale in particular that may have you intrigued. According to Winter Is Coming, the settlement of Kaštel Gomilica near Split, Croatia is being considered … especially a fortress by the name of Kaštilac.

You can see photos of it over at the original article, and we’re intrigued already as to how this will work within the show. There are some features of it already that make it look like a perfect fit for a few select storylines, but it may also need a little post-production work given how it still looks a little too modern in some ways (strange as that may sound) for Westeros. However, its unique location on an island is intriguing, and the show really looks for ancient locations that you have not necessarily seen a lot of before in the media. That is why Croatia is such a commonly-visited place for them. Few Americans ever even heard of Dubrovnik prior to the show being there. Now, it’s known worldwide as King’s Landing.

Filming has not officially begun in Croatia, but we will have some more news on that in the near future. Meanwhile, be sure to also sign up today to get some further updates on all we cover via our official newsletter.
