‘Doctor Who’ season 9 (practically) official, per Steven Moffat
For those of you wondering whether or not the adventures of Peter Capaldi are going to continue into next year, we come bearing good news: It’s just about official that “Doctor Who” will be back for a ninth season next year.
Speaking to Digital Spy, showrunner Steven Moffat confirmed that there will be a ninth season of the show next year, and it will follow almost identically the same format that season 8 has. That means that there will once again be a run that airs in the fall without interruption, and then after that, there will be yet another Christmas Special.
So will star Capaldi be around for that, as well? Other reports suggest so, as The Sun says that he has signed on to do at least one more run on the show in addition to this year’s shows. To us, this is a cause for celebration. Sometimes it takes a full season to really get it hammered down whether or not a Doctor is a great one, and for audiences to start to get used to you. We’d like at least two full seasons of the Capaldi / Jenna Coleman combo before either one of them starts to think about going somewhere else. It is still clear that the shelf life for Doctors and Companions is not forever, but we’re fine with that. All we really want is to be able to make some great memories with them while they are around. Part of the appeal of the show may also be the continual presence of new faces; if you do not like one particular character, for example, you can rest knowing that they are probably not going to be around for a long time.
We are going to have more on the rest of “Doctor Who” coming up in the near future, so be on the lookout for more of that! Also, you can sign up in the event you want further scoop on all we cover now via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
