‘The Originals’ season 2 spoilers: A different sort of history lesson

Where is the story going on “The Originals” season 2? We’ve heard quite a bit about Hayley and Elijah in addition to many other prospective couples, but what about one that hasn’t been discussed much at all in Mikael and Esther?

We do understand in a way why they are not too frequently-discussed, mostly due to the fact that they have not been a huge part of this show in a long time (since “The Vampire Diaries,” really). Also, their relationship is a little ambiguous other than their lineage and what we know about their marriage.

Luckily, at least some of this is going to be changing very soon. Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Julie Plec promised that you’re going to see a whole lot more backstory on these two characters moving forward, including the feelings that they have for each other and so much more:

“We know about their marriage, and we know that they made their kids into vampires, but do they like each other? … Do they hate each other? We’re having so much fun writing the history of Esther and Mikael right now.” 

Personally, we see this story as a very exciting one in theory. We really like these two characters, and also feel like there is a ton of cool stuff to explore here that we haven’t really touch on just yet. Hopefully, this episode will be a great opportunity to touch on some of that. We’d speculate on their future, but how can you really have a future when the two parties are really actually dead?
