‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 spoilers: The Negan theories, and that new trailer

Here is how desperate many fans of “The Walking Dead” are right now to eventually see Negan on the upcoming fifth season: If there is something that looks somewhat like the much-feared character in promotional material, that is enough to really get the wheels turning.

At around 2:20 in the season 5 trailer below, there is a blind-and-you’ll-miss-it moment of Glenn where it looks like he is about to be struck by something while he is gagged and facing the other way. Obviously, the theory that is out there is that this someone is Negan, and that this something that is about to strike him is a baseball bat.

But is all of this really true at all? The only thing we can advise you to do right now is slow down and take a few deep breaths for a couple of different reasons:

1. We never actually see a baseball bat in this clip, which is Negan’s beloved weapon of choice.
2. The show does typically announce actors who are playing big characters on the show, even if they do not tell you who these big characters are they are playing.
3. This person really doesn’t look anything like Negan, and while they may take some liberties from the comics, we’re still sure that part of the character could remain intact.

In the end, we do think that Negan will show up eventually, and we’re not seeing this as a sort of Lady Stoneheart situation all over again where something beloved to the source material doesn’t translate over. It is still early, and there is therefore some more time left in the season for these things to be announced.
