‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 spoilers: All about Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith
For those of you who have felt that “Grey’s Anatomy” drifts at times from its primary focus (which would be Meredith Grey), you are probably going to be pretty excited about the news that we have for you now: You are about to be on the cusp of a whole season all about Ellen Pompeo’s character. She’s going through some tough times right now, and it may take her a while to fully recover.
Creator Shonda Rhimes tells TVLine in a new interview that you really are looking at a tiny time jump of around 24 hours from the end of season 10 to the start of this one, which is going to give Meredith no time at all to recover from the exit of Cristina. This, and so many other factors, will lead to her being in such a vulnerable place:
“Right now, if you were in the writers’ room, you would probably tell me that the theme is ‘Meredith,’ [because] all I keep saying is, ‘The show is just about Meredith Grey!’
“It’s really a Meredith-centric season. She’s lost her ‘person,’ her [half-]sister has shown up, her husband is chafing to go someplace else…”
There will most likely be more conflict between Meredith and Derek than we’ve seen on the show in some time, and while the presence of Caterina Scorsone’s Amelia as a regular may help her to have someone else to talk to, it’s not going to be the same as Cristina. This is a long, tough season ahead for the character, and she is going to have to navigate these waters and come through on the other side if she wants to be okay.
We learned yesterday at TCA that the “Grey’s Anatomy” premiere will come on Thursday, September 25, so we will of course have more news to share before that time. Also, be sure to sign up if you want to grab some other big updates on all we cover via our newsletter.

Remember the post-it Derek. (and writers). She said you will love me when you still hate me. He wrote no running. no one walks out. I have a long memory, like an elephant. Why doesn’t he work one day a week WA, DC and the rest of his time at home? He is on board half of his time for racing so he seems to work around that on GA. He also said, I will never cheat on you during the lion episode so don’t haul in some “ho” for us to deal with. Why not give them another child for Mer to carry? He wanted babies so give them more babies. That is life. Get it together writers.
