‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 spoilers: Filming to return to Iceland; but…

Kit HarringtonGame of Thrones” loves to go international with its locations, and for good reason. Part of why this show is one of the best on TV is because of the “spare no expense” strategy production takes to making their landscapes authentic. That’s why we have seen the likes of Iceland, Croatia, Morocco, and more all utilized heavily in the past.

While we reported yesterday that HBO had confirmed that filming will take place in Spain this summer, we’re also hearing now that Iceland will be yet again used … but in a different role than the past few years. According to an Icelandic news report via show site Winter Is Coming, a production crew will travel to shoot some landscape shots, and that is it for  this year. The cast is reportedly not going to be in the country this year.

For seasons 2 and 3, Kit Harrington in particular spent a long period of time in the country, but for season 4, the show actually traveled there in the summer to get a different sort of terrain for some of their scenes in the Veil. There were originally some scenes that were planned for the country this year, but that plan has apparently changed.

There are many more locations that will be scouted and discussed in the coming weeks, but for now the certain locales are once again Northern Ireland, where the primary sets are located, and also over in Croatia. That is where the King’s Landing exterior sets are in Dubrovnik. We do wonder if that place eventually will become too much of a zoo, given that everyone knows that the show films there.
