‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Official premiere date, teaser with Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman
“Doctor Who” has been preparing for its season 8 premiere almost all year long, and now that it is finally here, we are pleased to report some other good news: The date the show will be back on the air!
Saturday, August 23 is what you should mark your calendars for, and this is a little unusual given that most BBC series choose to wait until a few months beforehand to announce their own premieres. We imagine that the difference here is largely that the show is aired at this same date across many countries, and in America in particular the preference is to announce the dates as early as possible.
If the 13-episode season is aired all in one bunch as showrunner Steven Moffat previously suggested, that means you will have more adventures of The Doctor until around the middle of November. This leaves fittingly a long enough hiatus between the finale and the Christmas Special to have viewers excited again.
Peter Capaldi is the lead for the first time, and the teaser below certainly makes him a much more mysterious, dark character than the version played by Jenna Coleman. After all, she professes in here that she does not quite feel like this is the same Doctor that she once knew and love. Ultimately, she is right: This Doctor is so much more of an enigma, and we feel for the time being that this is a welcome change, given that we had such a familiarity with Matt Smith by the end. It’s nice to be on your toes again.
Hopefully, this news does end up compensating for the fact that there will be no presence for the show at Comic-Con this year. Instead, the cast is embarking on a world tour in order to better promote to multiple audiences.
