‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 spoilers: Kit Harrington on Jon Snow’s new dilemma
Is it fair to say that Jon Snow is in a very interesting position going into “Game of Thrones” season 5? We believe so, mostly because it’s a position that he has never quite been in before. The last time he was around anyone with connections to a king, it was his father Ned Stark and he never really thought of him as royalty.
The presence of Stannis Baratheon, meanwhile, is somewhat different. While Ned may have been loyal to King Robert, Stannis to him is still an unknown in a world where you really cannot trust anyone. This leads to some uncertainty on Jon’s part, but there may be a realization with Stannis that this is someone who is useful to him. there are obviously the loyalty ties, but more than that, this is someone he could use to get the Night’s Watch on board with his plan potentially.
Speaking to “Access Hollywood,” Kit Harrington does his best to break down that fascinating arrival of Stannis to the north, and how Jon could react to him around:
“It’s a really interesting power play moment. You haven’t seen Jon come across a king before, and it’s interesting to see how he deals with it. He’s asked by Tormund, ‘Is that your King?’ And he says to Tormund, ‘I don’t have a King,’ and I think that’s Jon through and through. He’s part of the Night’s Watch and he’ll refer to Stannis as, ‘your grace,’ but he’s a brother of the Night’s Watch. He isn’t led by anyone.”
One other interesting story that we’ll enjoy checking out this coming season is what the interactions are like between Jon and Melisandre. She could be someone who either torments him, or helps him unlock a different part of himself. We still have some of those chilling memories of her with Gendry, who we assume is still paddling somewhere in the world after being missing in action during season 4.
There are still so many “Game of Thrones” headlines to discuss this offseason, but for some of you book readers, we’s suggest starting off with what a certain actor had to say recently about a controversial plot left out of the show.
