ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7: One welcome sign of things to come
Want “Castle” spoilers right now? Then you better hope that you are a writer. These are not easy things to come by right now, given that the team just started on Monday night crafting new episodes, which will be filmed starting next month prior to the show’s likely return in September.
Ever since the finale ended, it has been pretty clear that the show has some serious explaining to do. They have to justify a pretty polarizing finale twist, and keeping the Castle – Beckett wedding from us a little longer than they really had to. Regardless of whatever we think about this, though, the show’s creator is making it clear that he is still happy and proud of the progress being made. Just take a look at what showrunner Andrew W. Marlowe posted on his official Twitter account:
“Can I just say how proud I am of our writers? I’m so excited by everything we’ve been talking about.”
If Andrew is excited, then are we excited? We’re at least optimistic. While we’ve already gone on the record in saying that we would have rather season 6 ended with the wedding and not some sort of brain-numbing surprise, we like to think of ourselves as open-minded. Maybe the twist will end up being so amazing that we forget all about what happened in the finale. If nothing else, it has certainly produced way more conversation for the return of the show than it probably would’ve had if we had a pretty open-and-shut finale that left us with a sea of possibilities.
Are you as optimistic as Marlowe is about the next “Castle” season? Share below, and head over here if you want to see our debate about if there should be some new villains introduced this season. Also, you can sign up to grab further TV clues and updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.

Up until the last episode, I have been a “Marlowe will do it right” person; however, the last episode says to me that we loyal watchers know the show and the characters better than the writers do. As was pointed out, when Beckett was up for the D.C. job there is no way in hell that a previous marriage wouldn’t be found. A nice wedding to end the year with intimations of trouble to come could have been written and we all would be happy.
I know that often in the original Star Trek, that the actors would tell the writers that “my character would never do that” and usually the action was changed to conform to the character as the actor saw it. (The same thing was documented in “Highlander”.) The fact that we, the audience, know the characters better than some of the writers do is sad. I would think that Marlowe, who has written and followed the show from the beginning, would be as concerned as us about the continuity of the show and it’s characters.

The writers have a lot to prove. Don’t trust them anymore. They destroyed Beckett’s character with that ridiculous ex husband. That whole destruction of “one and done” thing bothered me worse than the no wedding and car crash. I felt like I was watching “General Hospital.” Really a lot of soap writers are out of work. Maybe they are working on Castle. I will know for sure if Castle is alive but has amnesia and doesn’t remember Beckett. Just saying :(

I will be back for 7 X 1…how long I stay depends on the “mythology” (AM’s words) being delivered. Prior to the 3 week break in April after 6 X 19, I was 100% into the series. The 4 episodes since then are, in my opinion, among the worst of the 6 year run ! If Mr Marlowe and the staff that he is so proud of, continue to turn out dreck of this sort, I suppose I’ll move on.

Every season ending show has been the same deal, a big cliff hanger. I’m growing tired of the hook they keep sinking into my cheek to keep me interested. As for the future. When the series comes to an end you can be sure it will leave you hanging.

Anyone who continues to buy into anything Marlowe is selling deserves the stuff coming toward their way. I’m so sick of this giving the show writers a free pass. We aren’t obligated to like anything they do. In fact, it’s better for the show if we point out their silly mistakes. Otherwise, they’ll keep shoveling cow dung our way.
