‘The Walking Dead’ season 5: Norman Reedus joins ‘True Detective’ star with Spike TV honors

Now that the May sweeps are almost over, it is time that we really start to usher in a different sort of TV season: Summer awards shows! They really get going tomorrow with the Billboard Music Awards over on ABC, but there are many more of them that we are going to see play out over the course of the months ahead.

One of these shows is the annual Spike TV Guys’ Choice Awards, which are going to tape on June 7 and air on June 9. So how does all of this impact Norman Reedus? Well, it’s because the star from “The Walking Dead” has been announced to be the honoree for the Biggest Ass-Kicker award. Meanwhile “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick has been awarded the Smartacus trophy (clever, clever), while the Guy of the Year Award is going to get to “True Detective” star Matthew McConaughey. We really hope that Matthew says “all right all right all right” at some point in its speech.

For Spike TV, we imagine that one of their biggest challenges year in and year out when it comes to this show is probably just from the department of finding a ton of ways to get guys to watch the show. Awards shows are not typically the sort of thing that action or movie junkies love (at least per our estimation), and they therefore have to get an awesome group of people there. Having Norman and McConaughey as recipients of awards certainly helps things.

Norman is a very busy man right now, given that he is in the process of filming “The Walking Dead” season 5 in Atlanta.
