‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4: Ten choices to play ‘Frozen’s’ Elsa
Do you want to know how you have come up with a brilliant twist to end a season of your TV show? When there are entire articles that can be written about casting a character that was teased at the very end of your finale. “Once Upon a Time” pulled that off brilliantly with their Elsa twist, though it definitely does not hurt that they were using the success of a popular feature film like “Frozen” to help them out.
Depending on what direction producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis go with the character, we’ve come up with a handy list of ten casting possibilities below. The only real qualifications that they will for sure be looking for here is either a white actress who is blonde, or could at least put on a proper wig like Emilia Clarke does on “Game of Thrones.” We’ve also targeted people who could be available this summer / fall.
Elizabeth Mitchell – This is a hot pick of the internet. Kitsis and Horowitz both worked on “Lost,” and Mitchell is coming off of “Revolution.”
Maggie Grace – Maggie is another popular “Lost” name, and she already showed with Shannon that playing cold doesn’t bother her, anyway.
Georgia King – King was the star of NBC’s short-lived “The New Normal,” and was briefly cast in the “Odd Couple” remake before the show decided to go in another direction. She has done drama before (“Merlin”), so this is not a stretch.
Malin Akerman – With “Trophy Wife” canceled, why not keep Malin within the ABC family in some other way?
Laura Vandervoot – The “Bitten” star makes a whole lot of sense, and after playing Supergirl on “Smallville,” she’s used to iconic roles. The only problem is that she may have to return to the Syfy series, though its fate is not known at this time.
Caity Lotz – A relatively unlikely choice, but she’s likely gone from “Arrow” for a while and definitely has no problem shooting in Vancouver.
Idina Menzel – It’s very unlikely given that she has a Broadway show, but we feel like it has to at least be mentioned in a meaning somewhere. We’ve also heard Kristen Bell as a fan wish, but she for sure has “House of Lies” to film.
Peyton List – This is one of the “wear a wig” persuasion, but Peyton just wrapped “The Tomorrow People,” is close to the age Elsa was in the movie, and also has played characters with this sort of demeanor.
Gillian Jacobs – There’s a part of us that seriously wants to see this happen if “Community” doesn’t go forward, mostly because there’s a part of Britta that probably secretly wishes she was a Disney princess (though she would never admit it).
Yvonne Strahovski – It would be a quick turnaround, but “24: Live Another Day” is getting her back in our good graces after the “Dexter” disappointment. Plus, there’s always “Chuck.”
