‘Shark Tank’ season 6: How do you get your product on the show?

Shark Tank -Tonight, “Shark Tank” will be ending its fifth season, but we know that there are thousands of people out there watching who probably think that either A) They can do better than some of the people pitching on the show or B) That they legitimately have a good idea that some of the sharks will be interested in.

So with that in mind, the focus of this article is all about answering this simple question: How do you get on the show? Like with applying for anything in reality TV, there are a number of steps, and a number of things that can be taken into consideration. Note that we don’t have any experience as an entrepreneur, but we have been through the casting process and we know what that is like.

These are the two best options if you really want to get the ball rolling if your goal is finding a way to get on the show.

1. Attend an open call – There are two calls coming up for Denver and San Diego references, and you can see some more details about that at the link here. If you really want to make a good impression, this is the easiest way to do so. Open calls put you right in front of people, and we suggest that you bring both a big personality (this is an entertainment show more than a business opportunity) along with a great presentation on your product. Make sure that it is super-clear what it does, since that will be relayed to the casting producers and eventually the audience.

2. Submitting a video – In addition to submitting an application if you are unable to make a call, you can also submit a video of yourself pitching your product. (Instructions are here.) The basic rules are the same: Be passionate, driven, and clear about what you want out of the show, and your vision for your product. Don’t make it look like you just want to get on TV to sell lots of your product, or that you created something a month ago just so you can meet Mr. Wonderful. Personalize your story without getting too sappy about it. (The dreadful presentations are the ones where the company owners look desperate. You want to have confidence that you can find success without help from the sharks.)
