‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6: Is Matt Davis coming back as Alaric?

For those who loved seeing the return of Alaric on the season 5 finale of “The Vampire Diaries” Thursday night, we come now bearing extremely good news: You’re going to be seeing quite a bit of him moving forward to next season.

Sources confirm that Matt Davis, who was a major part of the first three seasons before dying after being turned into a bloodthirsty killing machine, is going to be back for more in the future. Not only that, but he will be a series regular for season 6. This was confirmed mere minutes after the finale ended.

No as for the status of some other characters, that is still to be seen. At the conclusion of the hour, we saw Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) approach the light. This theoretically means that the two are gone from the show, but we know better than that. A week ago, it looked like Stefan was dead.

Having more Matt Davis is for us a net positive on the show, especially if both he and Tyler Lockwood are now human completely. This show has become very supernatural as of late, and while the fates of some characters are unclear, the show needed to go back to its roots on a certain level. Getting more human characters is a way to do that.

The other significance of Alaric? He grounds this for us, and gives us at least one older cast member in the bunch.

Since we last saw Alaric on the show, Davis starred in the short-lived series “Cult,” and also had a brief recurring role on “CSI.”
