CBS passes on ‘How I Met Your Dad,’ but another network may scoop it up
The biggest surprise of pilot season is now official: CBS does not want to put “How I Met Your Dad” on the air this fall. The sort-of-spin-off from “How I Met Your Mother” was touted to be one of the biggest potential properties of the new year, but for some reason CBS opted that they would rather not pick it up.
So what is the biggest reason for their decision-making here? Network head Nina Tassler simply suggested that it was not the creative vision that they had for the show, and this was a very hard decision for them to not pick it up. They were interested in potentially re-piloting the show with some changes, which is what they actually did with “The Big Bang Theory” years ago, but studio Sony TV was not as keen on the idea. The show boasts a talented team of producers including Carter Bays, Craig Thomas, and Emily Spivey.
So what comes next? It is very well possible that another network picks it up, and we feel pretty confident that one will given the success of the brand. It will be weird to see “How I Met Your Dad” on a channel other than CBS, but sometimes, you have to just deal with what has been given to you.
The last thing that we will say here is this: While we very much disliked the ending for the original show, there does have to be a time at some point where you let go of that disappointment and remember all the great stuff that came before it. We feel like the bad ending doesn’t take away the good memories, and we still want to see this show picked up.
