‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4 features Princess Elsa; when will casting be known?

Emma -Once Upon a Time’s” season 4 finale last night delivered many surprises, whether it be Hook and Emma finally getting together or us seeing Marian enter the world of present-day Storybrooke. This very move completely destroys the hope of happiness that Regina once has, especially since she knows that it was the Evil Queen who had locked the love of Robin Hood away in the first place.

But, we imagine the biggest surprise of all is what left you frozen, staring at your TV screens. That’s right: “Frozen.” Despite the fact that this movie is not even a year old, the show is dipping into that well now by introducing Princess Elsa as a character on the show. Maybe they see it as a net positive, since the show promotes the movie, and the movie in turn promotes the show.

Frozen -You can see the just-released teaser from ABC to the left, and this is important to us for what we are about to explain below.

Since we’ve gotten some comments about this as of late, we want to address whether or not this character should be called Princess Elsa right now. The “Frozen” story does have its origins in “The Snow Queen” fairy tale, and we understand that there are other names that she could and maybe should be referred to, depending on timelines and also the lore of the story. However, “Princess Elsa” is what the character from the Disney movie is most referred to as, and until we are given further information from the show’s producers, this is the name that we are going to use.

The other reason to justify calling the character Elsa for now is because the show seems to be making little effort to explain that this is anything other than the “Frozen” character, and producers are way more likely to draw inspiration from the movie right now than the fairy tale.

As for when the role will be cast, we imagine that it will come at some point later this year. We actually have someone in mind who would be great in the part, but we want to wait before saying anything to see whether or not the actress stays a part of their other show. Let’s just say that they should be used to wearing costumes.
